5 Ways to Develop a New Healthy Habit

Simple Health Habits Worth Adopting in Your Life

March 14, 2022

Change is inevitably difficult. We all know that. We, as humans, have the tendency to fall into the comfort of our ways, but that does not mean that we do not have the capacity for change!

The past couple years have been a whirlwind of emotions for everyone on the planet and it is specifically for that reason that it is necessary for each one of us to start adopting newer, healthier lifestyles that will change our lives to the better. It could be overwhelming at first, but with these simple steps it becomes easier than ever.

1. Plan it Out!

Simply saying you want change is one thing but actively striding towards change is a whole different game. Once you sit yourself down and create a tangible plan, we could say that the journey has officially begun! By setting goals for yourself, it will feel more rewarding once you achieve those goals, which would automatically push you to fulfil your next goal.

2. Consistency is Key!

“Old habits die hard” goes the age old saying, but it could be much easier than that actually! Simply sticking to your desired plan can work wonders. Just like you do that little “phone, wallet, keys” pat-down before leaving through the front door, get used to filling your reusable water bottle every morning before leaving.

3. Start Small!

There is no need to go all the way and become a marathon runner overnight, but studies suggest that simply walking for 20 to 30 minutes daily massively decreases the risk of getting sick, as well giving you a rush of dopamine that would leave you invigorated for the rest of the day!

4. Keep Going, You’re Almost There!

Habits normally form either through your brain deciding that an action is efficient or through the release of dopamine, which is why it is easy to fall into bad habits that bring us pleasure. This is where it could get tricky. We should not take shortcuts to happiness. Building good habits takes time and effort, but will pay off in the long run. You will thank us when you live a long and healthy life!

5. Just Enjoy It!

Creating healthy habits does not have to be a chore; as a matter of fact it should not! Always remember that you are doing this for your own benefit, so that you and those around you could live a better, happier life. Make a game out of it, create fun little things to look forward to (such as feeding that chubby little cat you see each time on your daily walk).

Whether you do it alone or with friends and family, developing new healthy habits will substantially improve quality of life, and you might just inspire others to do the same!
